Machupicchu is the goal of all the thousands of visitors who flock to Peru each year.  For centuries this lost city remained covered by dense jungle vegetation, until its discovery in 1911 transformed it into the most evocative symbol of ancient Peru.

The location of Machupicchu was apparently chosen because it was ideally suited to the necessities of Inca religious ceremonies, which are closely linked to the sacred geography of the area and the constellations. The site comprises more than two hundred buildings: including baths, fountains, temples, palaces, and houses. All are connected by stone stairways.
