The name Huancayo comes from the two Quechua words "Huanca" which means stone or rock and "Yock" a place or person who has some think, so, it means: “A place with rock” or “place where is the rock”. Altitude: 3,259masl (10,728 ft) Population: 272,866 inhabitants |
Capital of the Junin Region Huancayo is one important town of the Mantaro Valley, which pursue their artesian trades and they keep doing the typical festivals Mantaro Valley is rich in culture, here is located the Warivilca ruins, with it's traces of pre-Inca temples of the Huanca tribe.
Between Pilcomayo and Huayo is the Geophysical Institute of Huayo; called as "Magnetic Equator" for it's proximity to the mountains which provokes a center of magnetic waves. |

Lima/Huancayo
Departure from “Desamparados”
train station at 7:00AM, you must be there half
an hour before, stop at La “Oroya” station and
PM arrive in Huancayo, transfer to the hotel for
2 nights. |
Full day excursion by car
visiting the Convent of Ocopa, lagoon of Paca
and trout nursery (Ingenio), Lunch at a local
restaurant
Huancayo/Lima
Transfer to the bus station and,
departure at 1:30PM, Arrival in Lima around
8:30PM |
