According to legend, once upon a time a legendary personage called Naylamp, arrived to the Lambayeque coasts, who landed near the Faquislanga river, there established and built a temple called Chot where he installed a stone idol called Llampayec .
After many years being to king. Naylamp died and the Mochica priest made the people believe he was immortal, holding the power his elder son Cium.
The Mochica culture was generated by this mythic origin, with importante administrative and ceremonial centers in the region like Tucume and Sipan.

The Mochica decadency let another culture called Lambayeque to go through, which was developed between VIII and XVI century a.c. Further on, this territory was occupied by the Chimu civilization and finally by the Incas; archaeological vestige left by these civilizations, is an open treasure for the universal culture.
Places like Batan Grande, Tucume, Apurlec, Sican, Sipan and many others are sample of the greatness of this exceptional artists, architects and agriculture people. |

In the midel of year 1987, a vigorous team of peruvien archaeologists, leaded by Doctor Walter Alva, announced one of the most extraordinary archaeological recovering of XX century, The Lord of Sipan Sepulchre (La Tumba del Señor de Sipan) Mochica dignitary in the Lambayeque Valley. It was important, for it was the first tomb of unique Perú personage, found untouched. New traveled around the world in a few days.
The Sipan Lord ruled between II and III century of our time and represented the divine power over the world with triple, religious, army and civil autority. He was buried in a wooden sarcophagus, different to most of funerals of that time where funeral bales where used, On his cloths there were numeoous and fine gold and silver pieces of peculiar artistic beauty, ornamented with semiprecious stones like turquoises, lapis-lazuli and spondylous shells from Ecuador. |
The most represetative objects of this Mochica chief are two pair of ear rings, three sharpen lances, a circular solid gold lingot, a helmet of the same metal, also nose covers, medals and golden eyes. Also the golden semicircular headdress, that covered his head, was founded and one scepter with a shiny gold finishing and upside down pyramid shape.

Also more than one thousand Mochica ceramic pieces were found around the tomb, Most of the ornaments, cloth, apparel and badges of the governor correspond to the design shown on this culture ceramic.
Outside the sarcophagus several skeletons were unburied, they were two women located by the head and feet of Lord of Sipan and two men, one at each side and one dog skeleton.
All of them were sacrificed during the funeral ceremony for making company to their master in the out of world life. |
Later on, golden masks with human faces and fighters lances were found by the funeral bale of another Mochica chief, who was given the name of Old Sipan Lord. |
