HORSE RIDING
The stocky horses of the Peruvian
highlands are not thoroughbreds, but they are
well adapted in stature to high altitude and
used to narrow mountain trails. The geography
around Cusco is spectacular, and the hills are
peppered with the remains of the Inca empire. We
offer several programs, from gentle excursions
to more adventurous programs.
Program: HALF DAY TOUR.-
- We visit on horseback the
archaeological sites in the mountains around
Cusco, including the temple dedicated to Mother
Earth at Q´enqo, the Temple of the Moon and
Lanlacuyoc, known to locals as the “X Zone”; a
limestone outcrop where natural openings in the
rock have been used by the Incas to create a
labyrinth of sacred tunnels dedicated to Mother
Earth. We also visit Puca Pucara and Tambomachay,
a centre for the worship of water, as well as
some local villages on our way back to the
stables. At the end of the excursion we will
have time to visit the megalithic ruins of
Sacsayhuaman.
-
- Other horse riding excursions
include visits to traditional and charming
Andean towns and communities in the Cusco
region.
